Marginalised communities in Nairobi face significant challenges due to gender inequality and injustice. Issues such as lack of access to education, unequal remuneration for work done, and limited representation in decision-making processes perpetuate a cycle of inequality. Despite various efforts, there remains a critical gap in addressing the root causes and providing sustainable solutions for those affected. Our focus is on understanding and mitigating gender inequality and injustice through comprehensive analysis and targeted interventions involving all relevant stakeholders.

Our group began with a complex analysis of the problem, considering all stakeholders involved. This exploration helped us understand how gender inequality and injustice personally impact each team member and our wider community. This foundational understanding enabled us to identify key areas within the system where we could create meaningful change.

Working with youth groups in marginalised communities in Nairobi, we conducted workshops, peer-to-peer discussions, and research utilizing open-source materials. Group discussions further helped us uncover the multifaceted nature of gender inequality and injustice, involving government, society, and community leaders. Through this collaborative effort, we were able to develop a deeper understanding of the problem at all levels.

With the support of the SAYDS program, we applied Complexity Analysis and Systems Thinking skills to design an effective intervention strategy. Our approach includes community-driven initiatives, advocacy for policy changes, and educational programs aimed at empowering women and girls. We believe our intervention can be implemented within our communities and scaled to the county and national levels. Through our work, we aim to create a supportive environment where everyone, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to realize their full potential.
